The local
church I belong to runs a food pantry. If you're hungry, you
can stop by and pick up a box of staples twice a month, no
questions asked. Almost every day they have bread, milk and
eggs. I think that a balanced meal requires veggies, too.
So every week I take in the extras from my garden. Today it
was lettuce and celery.
The most
common thing people say is "how much?" and when
they hear it is free they cannot believe there is no string
attached.
For the
regular person here in America, with gas at $4 a gallon and
meat at $6 a pound and eggs at $2/dozen people are eating
drek and it makes me sad. If only they started a small garden
and kept a few chickens, we would all eat better.
I think
that's my new slogan, "Take chickens out of factories
and put them in backyards where they belong!"
