This past spring I ordered chicks mail order and had trouble that
the birds got chilled in transit.
That had never happened to me before and it was so depressing that
I was a little skittish about ordering birds again. But my new hen
yard is big enough for twenty birds, so I went ahead and ordered 25
mixed brown egg layers.
They arrived on Friday, cheeping mightily and were energetic and
rushing around the brooder when I put them in it. They immediately
began eating, drinking & pooping. Life is good.
In the five days they've been here they are steadily growing and
there have been no fatalities. They are all black and probably would
not be suitable for showing. However, they are exactly what I recommend
for the backyard chickenkeeper -- hardy production birds that will
likely lay well.
Cheers for a new chicks!
